A very decent UN document describing the need for the convention.
Honestly, for a one day conference this is all you would need to know.

3. Helping Migrants to Integrate.

Another decent UN document which explains integrating migrants helps reduce security risks.

• and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly (with end of term date):
