IGCSE students

Dear IGCSE students,

I have reserved room 101 from 8-10h this Wednesday morning... so you can prepare for NCYMUN during class....

Spread the word, and remember to bring any computer files/ information with you!

Best regards,
Mrs C

good work is being done !

I'm beginning to read some really good speeches / position papers...

As we have to move so quickly, why not add the key phrases for speech making directly into your papers:

Ladies and Gentlemen, honorable chairs.....

Remember, avoid the pronoun 'I' - use your country name (even if it sounds repetitive)...

and, while 'on the floor' always refer to yourself as 'the delegate of your country'...

Feel free to email me anytime if you need help :-)

News About Position Papers

Hello everyone,

This is the message I received from NCYMUN:

Your delegates should arrive with minimum one Position paper and/or Resolution paper that they prepare with their partner but they do not have to send it beforehand.

My understanding is that we should just do our best.

Indeed, at this late point, I think it is best that
a) you understand your country, committee and topics
b)you understand the problem well enough, from your country's perspective, you can propose some solutions
c) you do your best to write a position paper (wth your partner).

If you are really stuck, email me your research and I will begin to write the position paper for you!

best regards, as ever,
Mrs C

Each of you will be paired with a student from Lycée Jeanne d'Arc.

Please email your partner today and introduce yourself.

Again, just email me if you have any questions (robyn.cnockaert@gmail.com )

-------------

You can  use this type of email:

Dear X

I am Y from the Lycée International des Pontonniers in Strasbourg.

Within NCYMUN 2017, I will represent (name of your country) in (name of your commitee).

I understand that we will be working together, but I am not sure of the details.

Can you let me know how we should proceed?
Best regards,

Position Papers

This is a blog entry that I created for LMUNA that will help YOU!

The MUN Guide should become your new bible !

The Youtube video is also very useful.

The key is NOT to panic.

a) I can help you.
b) There is a formula that you can apply. Just take it step by step.
c) As you do NOT need to email it beforehand, there is no need to aim for perfection.
d) Do create this document - as it will give you confidence on the day.

Once it's done.. I'll help you on your Resolution Paper (or to prepare resolutions to present).

You can also surf around blogs from previous MUN we've attended.

Stay in contact with me - robyn.cnockaert@gmail.com

----------

The General Assembly of the United Nations

General assembly is at the same time a committee and the name of the event that will gather all the committees between 16 and 17. So it will be all throughout the day with only the students marked in this committee and they will be joined from 16 to 17 by all the other committees (except security council)

Common questions about GA

---------------

The Role of Public Departments for Education in the Preserving of the Immaterial Cultural Heritage

This seems more an issue for UNESCO than the GA, but okay.

Try the UNESCO page to learn more.
NCYMUN feedback: "Role of public departments for education is how can the public departements for education help the migrants fulfilling their integration in the welcoming countries and at the same time encourage them to save their culture (oral, skills, art, story telling).

Try starting here, as UNESCO emphasizes we should: Understand the links between migration and education, and the challenges raised by intercultural education...

There is also this brochure advising cities how to welcome migrants.

And ths 'Migrant Help' brochure.
This European Commission document also lays out the EU strategy.
Guardian article lays out key reasons to help migrants.

To find out your country's position google 'name of your country + education + migrants'. This search seems to help.

See Brazil:
Fighting Xenophobia with eduaction in Brazil
Educate a child (but no longer a migrant child?).
Migration policy

Communicating on Migrants Welcoming Towards Local Populations.
This title is a little confusing. NCYMUN clarified: "Communicating is how can we improve the way we communicate to the populations who have to welcome migrants"

I would start here.. which reverses idea - that is local populations welcoming migrants.

What does TNC mean? Trans-National Company (and so an international company).
Learn about relationship between UN and TNCs.
The Guardian newspaper has a good article.

Scary stuff. Now think about what your country has to say...

Romania

Qatar

Mexico

France

Impact of Remittances in Countries of Origin and Destination

I think they are trying to examine the positive sides of migration.
To be honest, I am not sure your committee will have time to examine this issue in depth.
Look at the meaning of Remittance.. and then we can talk.

UN's reaction to the Calais Jungle.

UN's opinion of Migration and Human Rights

I would say that these 2 documents will give you a good starting point.

Remember your focus  is on "migration in Europe". The BBC offers a good starting point, but also think about what you know already.

Security Council: US, Russia and Egypt.

Security Council

Three countries are going to be represented by Pontonniers in the Security Council:
The USA
Federation of Russsia
Egypt

Russia - See Wiki page on Russia and Security Council.
The USA - See the US Mission Statement to UN
Egypt - Consider what  Egypt can bring to UN.

There are 3 topics to be discussed.
Create notes for each topic, and consider the perspective of your own country.
Not sure where to begin? Google your country name + topic (Russia + Syrian Crisis) and see where the journey takes you. Take notes as you go !

1. The Syrian Crisis
The Syrian Crisis presented by the BBC

Syria presented by CIA World Factbook

UN Documents for Syria

CNN article

Aljazeera article and video

2. Implementing the 1951 Geneva Convention on asylum

A very decent UN document describing the need for the convention.
Honestly, for a one day conference this is all you would need to know.

3. Helping Migrants to Integrate.

Another decent UN document which explains integrating migrants helps reduce security risks.

The Council is composed of 15 Members:
